Dare to rise Foundation
Stories from the Village
I JUST NEEDED SOMEONE TO SEE ME.
A single mom was going through one of those seasons where everything seemed to happen at once.
She didn’t need someone to fix her life.
She needed someone to listen, make a few connections and remind her she didn’t have to figure everything out alone.
Sometimes support starts there.
I DIDN’T KNOW PEOPLE LIKE ME DID JOBS LIKE THAT
A young person walked into a professional space for the first time.
At first, they barely spoke.
Then came a conversation.
A question.
An introduction.
They left seeing a future they hadn’t pictured before.
That’s why access matters.
MY KIDS WERE READY. THAT MEANT I COULD BREATHE.
Back-to-school expenses add up quickly.
For one parent, receiving support with school essentials meant more than backpacks and supplies.
It meant one less bill.
One less impossible choice.
And children who could walk into school ready.
NOBODY HAD EVER ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED.
She was used to being called Mom.
Used to being needed.
Used to putting herself last.
Then someone asked:
“What do you want for your life?”
She didn’t have an answer right away.
That’s okay.
Sometimes the beginning is simply remembering you’re allowed to have an answer.
These aren’t stories about rescuing people.
They’re stories about what can happen when people have support, access, opportunity and someone willing to show up.
